Quilting
I offer edge to edge computer guided longarm quilting on my APQS Lucey with Intelliquilter. Take a look at my available designs.
If you would like a design that you don't see on my website, I will split the cost of the pattern with you. Here are some websites you can look at for options:
I charge 2 and a half cents per square inch for all designs.
Example: A quilt top is 60 inches x 80 inches. 60 x 80 = 4800 x .025 = $120
Custom quilting: Please contact me to discuss as these can vary.
My minimum quilting charge is $50. This means that a small quilt's square inch price will be rounded up to the $50 minimum.
Batting
You may provide your own batting or purchase batting from me. I use and stock queen sized rolls (93") of Quilters Dream batting in Natural 80/20 cotton/poly blend, Natural 100% cotton, Bamboo, and Wool. I can also order other types of batting you might want to select, such as white, black, or "green" batting made from recycled plastic bottles.
Batting is a separate charge and is NOT included in the square inch price.
I charge for batting by the linear inch from queen rolls (93") of batting except in the case of special orders. I will use only what is needed for your quilt (smallest side + a 5" margin) and charge per inch.
For example, if you have a 60" x 80" quilt, I would cut 65" of the batting of your choice.
65" of 80/20 cotton/poly blend @ $0.41/in = $26.65
65" of 100% cotton select loft @ $0.43/in = $27.95
65" of Bamboo batting @ 0.49/in = $31.85
65" of Wool batting @ $0.58/in = $37.70
NOTE: If your quilt is longer than 88' on all sides (for example, 95" x 95"), batting off the roll is not long enough. I do stock single packages of 80/20 in King size (120" x 122") or I have single packages of Bamboo in King size (120" x 122").
I now also carry Soft and Stable (36" x 58") that can be used as the batting layer for bag making. ($18.95)
Thread
I stock Glide (#40 weight) and Premo-Soft (#50 weight) threads.
The cost of thread is included in the price per square inch quilting charge.
I will try to match or blend thread color with the lighter areas of your quilt, but if you have a specific color you want me to use, I carry an assortment of other colors you can select.
Backing Fabric
In order to successfully quilt your quilt on the longarm frame, backing fabric must be at least 4" bigger than the top of the quilt on all sides. (For example, a quilt 80" x 80" requires backing AT LEAST 88" x 88")
To save you time and energy that you would have spent piecing or purchasing a backing fabric, I have a few options of wideback fabric (108" width of fabric) in stock, if you would like that option. Select the fabric you would like when you book your quilt.
Other Services
Trimming - Trimming is included if you would like that service. Just let me know on your intake form that you would like it and how far from the edge of the quilt you would like it trimmed. I will return all trimmed fabric and batting to you.
Basting - For a flat rate of $32, I will baste your quilt to prepare it for hand quilting (by making tacking stitched in a grid across the quilt) or for quilting on your home sewing machine (by sewing large stitches in straight lines approximately 6" apart).
Binding - For a flat rate of $11, I will attach a provided, prepared binding (strips already cut, sewn together, and ironed in half lengthwise) to the front only of the quilt.
Seaming - For a flat rate of $16, I will seam your backing fabric if it is not already the size required for your quilt.
Pressing - While I ask that you would press your quilt and backing before I receive it, I will do any necessary pressing at no charge, unless you have given me a quilt that has been wadded up in a drawer for a decade. ;)
Shipping
Shipping your top and backing to me: I live in Iowa, USA, and would be happy to receive your top and backing by mail. I'd recommend sending your materials enclosed in some kind of sack or bag to protect against possible moisture in transit and then placed in a hard-sided cardboard box. Make sure the box is securely taped and labeled clearly.
Return shipping: I will send your quilt back to you in the manner described above via USPS Priority mail (using flat rate when possible/economical) or UPS. Priority mail comes with $50 of insurance and a tracking number but please indicate on your intake form if you would like me to buy any additional insurance on your behalf. It's a great idea to insure your valuables against loss or damage while with the Postal Service, but I don't require it.
Other Costs
As mentioned above, batting is not included in the square inch price. I'm required by the State of Iowa to collect a 7% sales tax on the quilting services and products for residents of the state of Iowa. Quilting services, batting, shipping, and any design/pantograph fees are not subject to sales tax if outside the state of Iowa.
